Welcome to Acton's Stream Team


On Saturday September 12, 1998 Acton Stream Team volunteers helped clean stream areas along Butter Brook @ Route 27, Coles Brook on the Auto Auction property, Conant Brook @ Newtown Road, and Fort Pond Brook by the dam along River Street. The weather was wonderful, the poison ivy was thick, and the volunteers were enthusiastic and hard working. A great blue heron and other wildlife were observed

during the course of the cleanup. The debris that was removed from the stream areas included numerous car parts (such as mufflers and pipes, five hubcaps, a headlamp, seven tires, and the grillwork from an old car),two,six-to-seven foot carved wooden business signs, a shopping cart, other metal debris, a two-foot model train, a horseshoe, two large plastic buckets, about ten large bags of bottles and cans, and about fifteen bags of fast food containers, styrofoam cups, plastic bags, and other miscellaneous litter.

Cleanup, Rail Trail/Trail Linkage, Stewardship, and Website, have already accomplished a lot.

Please come hear an update and become an active part of the Team, with one of the existing Task Forces-or on some other project that interests you, (for example: canoe access, stream maps, research issues, such as the foam on the water, Railroad batteries, fisheries, etc.) Please also come to the Stream Team Celebration on October 26.

There will be a public slide presentation of the results of the Spring 1998 Acton Shoreline Survey on Monday October 26, 1998 at 7:30pm in Acton Town Hall, Room 204. The slide show, which will feature some of the photographs taken during the survey, will be followed by the MA Riverways Program's presentation of two "Adopt-A-Stream" Awards to the Acton Stream Teams. The US Environmental Protection Agency has presented a "Certificate of Appreciation to the Acton Stream Teams, in recognition of commitment to the protection and restoration of the nation's water resources". Please come help us celebrate on October 26.
